LOTOJA

I think everyone from RMCC made it to Jackson!  Great job guys.  These are some photos of Ray on his LOTOJA vision quest.  Next time you see him ask him what is his spirit animal.

Morning Ride and Mike the Hard Ass

The morning ride is still going strong!  Motivated by CX season, Chad made an appearance this morning and Danny brought two more buddies to the peloton.  Mike's hard ass finally broke his saddle in half!  Ed, Mark, and I were bombing the descent nicely when our speed induced nirvana was temporarily interrupted by the school bus.  We had a good run but could have used a couple more people in the rotation.

Cheers

Killing it with Kilbourn!

Ed K.  You thought he was a roller, a tactician, and sprinter.  He is.  Ed K is all of these and much more.  He is an axe wielding Jazz master.  Listen to Kilbourn killing it at a venue near you, like 15th and 15th.  You see, RMCCers are not just spandex clad skinny tire riding cycling obsessed crazies.  We are spandex clad skinny tire riding cycling obsessed crazies who are also parents, students, workers, and apparently musicians.

RMR cancellation means Mid-Week Mtn Bike Racing

Pete A. and I opted for some fat tire fury last week.  Mtn bike racing is tough...no sitting in!

Ed Tucking and Ray's Pain Cave!

Ed shows us how to get aero with his sweet tuck.  Just try to hold his wheel down Big Cottonwood.

A good old fashioned sufferfest.  Ray is smack in the middle of the Pain Cave!

Hell of the North!

The Hell of the North saw the best weather in years.  The temps were perfect and the dirt could not be any faster.  Last year I almost hit my face on my bars, felt like my fork was going to break clean off, and flatted out early in the race.  My goals this year were to finish and finish in a group.  Mission accomplished.  I wasn't strong enough to make a split that occurred early in the race, which was disappointing, but to be expected based on my pharmacy school induced 4hr/wk training diet.  The rest of the race felt like a mellow group ride except for the last few kilometers;  I was perfectly happy with this given my atrophied training.

I saw Peter and Andrew mixing it up in the Masters notching 8th and 15th respectively.  Trent Watkins did RMCC proud with a 4th place in the cat 5s.  We are looking forward to Trent moving up the ranks in the near future!

This weekend is the Tour of the Depot.  I am committed to work and study but I hope to see the polka dot army charging hard.  The following weekend is East Canyon.  I'll see everyone there.

Cheers

"Fear the Dots" Jay B.

We had a pretty good showing at the 2nd RMR of the season.  Dave, Charlie, Liam, Chad, Jeff, Jay, Peter, Justin, Ed, Trent, and I had a great time (Give me a shout if I missed anyone)!  Justin and Charlie mixed up by throwing down on the front and by Justin taking a wicked flyer.  Nice job guys!  I think it was Chad's first time at RMR.  It was cool to see him get jamming on the tarmac.  All of us made it through upright which is nice.  There was an ugly crash in the A's that I barely avoided by charging into the dirt cyclocross style.  We are having a good start to the season and I hope to see more of us get out and about as the season progresses.

RMR #1

RMR action kicked off today!  A hand full of RMCCers threw down for some early season action.  Nice work boys!  I can't tell from the photos who everyone is but our kits are unmistakable!  Some people reported seeing Dave Sellers, Jay Boniface and Liam O'Donnell in the B's and
Trent Watkins and Jeff Flick in the C's.  Dave Sellars said he wasn't there.  We have some mystery riders that might want to give a shout on Facebook.  The mystery rider has spoken!  Dave Sharp is the man!  Anyway, it is good to hear the season is rolling.  I hope to ride my bike in next weeks RMR...it's spring break.

Oh, check out RMCC on Strava.  So far, I'm the only member.

Cheers

RMCC Faces of Winter

Mt. Dell shows us that it is truly a golf course not a XC ski venue!  Bummer!

Mike, Jeff, and Jay like to do some tree hugging when the snow flies.  The backcountry skiing beckons, pulling them off their trainers for a much needed mental break from stationary riding.

Andrew is RMCC's resident speedskater!  He throws down all winter on the ice and then uses his massive legs to blow it up at the crits.  Here is what he is up to:

I'm skating as usual.  It took me some time to recover from my cracked ribs at the UTCX Halloween cross race, but I am back at it.

Currently I have the fasted 500m & 1000m in the world this year for my age group (40-45) and am preparing to go to Masters World Sprint Championships in Holland this February.

It's a strong field, the Russian I tangled with in Berlin last year will be there, and we are pretty much identically as strong as each other. So it will be a dogfight!  There is also a Japanese and a Kazakh who are a half step behind us, if Bayev or myself make any tiny mistakes, they will zoom past...

Speedskating is the best winter training there is for American style racing!   In skating, the g-forces in the turns help you generate wattage outputs roughly 3 times what the same "feeling" that a comparable cycling effort has.    I am happy to guide/train with any RMCC member who wants to try skating, for equipment or how to get started.

Especially if you used to play hockey, or figure skate, it's crazy addictive training. Local strong racers Brian Boudreau & Teal Buschi skate, and when Robert Lofgran finished 2nd overall in the A's some years back, all he did in the off season for training was long track speedskating.

Onward!

Andrew
